Exposing Deception in Donna Carey’s Campaign

Trust is essential in public service, yet recent actions by Deputy Mayor Brian Kaminski and Tony Alfano, campaign treasurer for Donna Carey, raise serious questions about their commitment to transparency and fiscal responsibility.

In a recent letter to the editor, Kaminski falsely claimed the Board of Education had a “split vote” on security. This is untrue. The only split vote involving security occurred in the broader budget vote, which included funding for Retired Police Officers (RPOs) as part of school security. In that vote, both Alfano and his candidate, Donna Carey, voted against this funding—despite now claiming to prioritize school safety.

Compounding concerns, Carey’s updated R-1 filing shows nearly $5,000 in contributions, with $4,500 from Crystal Springs Services, a developer overseen by the Joint Land Use Board, on which both Alfano and Kaminski serve. This raises questions of potential pay-to-play influence over local governance. If Alfano cannot manage campaign finances transparently, how can we trust him—or his candidates—with taxpayer funds?

Transparency and fiscal accountability are essential commitments, not just campaign promises. When leaders conceal financial details or accept questionable funds, they erode public trust. Our community deserves representatives who put integrity and the public’s welfare above special interests. It’s time to demand better.
